I'm so glad you're here! Welcome to your new style journey...

DAY 20: 30 Day NO-BUY Challenge

Finding New Joy: Power Thoughts, Power Outfits

On day 20 of the 30 Day No Buy Challenge, we walk ourselves through a power moment about how our words shape our style, then we break down the next style challenges so we feel less stuck in our closets and more powerful in our bodies.

We shift from “we don’t have style” into goal oriented statements, we play with splitting up our favorite outfits to find new combinations, and we use Pinterest to gently rewrite our “we can’t wear that on our body” stories.

Together we’re learning to celebrate our bodies as they are, expand the possibilities in our closets, and remember that this work is not just for 30 days, it is for the rest of the year and our lives.

ACTION STEPS

Power thoughts in the closet

  • Notice one negative style statement you say about yourself, like “I don’t have style” or “I never know what to wear.”
  • Rewrite it as a goal oriented statement, “I am working on my style,” “I am getting better at putting outfits together from my closet.”
  • Say the new statement out loud the next time you walk into your closet.

Joy outfit practice

  • Choose one outfit that makes you feel complete joy, something you have worn before where your body says “yes.”
  • Wear that outfit intentionally today, notice how it feels, and snap a photo if you want to remember it.

Split the joy for more joy

  • Mark your calendar or notes for “Day 9” and “Day 10” of this mini challenge.
  • Day 9: Take one piece from your joyful outfit and build a completely new outfit you have never worn before.
  • Day 10: Take a different piece from that same outfit and create another brand new look.
  • Capture photos so you can see how many outfits lived inside one favorite.

Find your “I can’t”

  • Write down 1 to 3 “I can’t wear this because of my body” sentences that come up the most.
  • Circle the one that feels the loudest right now.

Pinterest body celebration

  • Open Pinterest and search “outfits for [your I can’t],” for example, “outfits for wide shoulders,” “outfits for mama pooch,” “outfits for big hips.”
  • Start a board just for this challenge, and save at least 10 images of people whose outfits inspire you and share something with your body.
  • Look closely at each saved image and jot down what you love: shapes, colors, fabrics, proportions, little styling tricks.

Bring it back to your closet

  • Pick one styling idea from your Pinterest board and try it with pieces you already own.
  • When the old “I can’t” thought shows up, pause, remind yourself, “I am learning to dress my real body with joy,” and redirect your brain back to experimentation.

Keep it gentle and long term

  • Choose just one or two actions from this list to focus on this week.
  • Add the others to a note or calendar reminder for the rest of the year, so you can keep playing with these formulas without pressure.

Day 20 – 30 Day No Buy Challenge

Hello, I'm Casey, your fashion bestie. You are on day 20 of the 30 day No By Challenge. And together, we're sparking a fashion, wellness, revolution, where we are getting rid of all the style insecurities you've ever been taught, and rebuilding a healthier relationship with your closet and yourself.

It has been a while since you've heard my voice. Well, maybe a few days now, so we're gonna start with a power moment. We're gonna get powerful here.

Power Moment: What You Speak Will Come Into Existence

Did you know, whatever you speak will come into existence? Yes, my friends, you have that power.

What I mean by this is I hear women all the time saying, I don't have style, I just don't know how to dress. And when we make statements like that, our mind scientifically cannot understand the difference between a true and untrue statement. So if you say, I don't have style, or I just don't know how to dress, you never will, because your mind will never believe you can.

However, if you switch what you're saying to a goal oriented statement like, I am working on having better style, or I am working on being quicker about finding outfits in my closet. Then your mind understands it's working towards a goal and will help you get there.

If you do statements that are negative, it will stop your mind from reaching that goal. But if you do goal oriented statements with some movement in it, it will help you get there.

I promise you will start feeling less stuck if you change your language about yourself.

Remember, the goal is not to not have these thoughts. If you think you're not supposed to, then you get hard on yourself, and you say, dang it, why do I think this way? But no. No, no, no, no, no. Do not get hard on yourself. Just redirect.

We all get these thoughts. But it's what we do with them, that matters. Do we let them get deeper and deeper and become limiting beliefs? Or do we snatch it up, throw it in the trash, and say, Not today?

So remember, don't get hard on yourself when these thoughts arise, just get rid of them as fast as you can.

Okay, think about that. So think about what you are saying when you walk into your closet. It's like what we talked about before. Is it a limiting belief statement, or is it showing you your possibility? in your closet? Just remember that.

So that's a power moment. That is our power moment for today.

Style Challenges: Outfit Play And Joy

Okay, we are gonna talk about these style challenges that have been happening. We have set aside time to outfit plan to play.

The last two days, we were supposed to wear our favorite outfit and switch one thing out, not something that's similar to the thing that you're switching out, something that's really different. I hope that has been going so well for you.

Today, we were all about wearing an outfit that just brings you complete joy.

What I haven't told you about this next challenge is a slightly different variation from what we have been doing. Another formula that I like to give people is splitting up your favorites, splitting up your favorite outfits.

So today, you are going to wear an outfit that just completely brings you joy. And it's one you've probably worn before, and you know it, you feel it in your body, and it just completely brings you joy.

Splitting Up The Joy For More Joy (Day 4, 9, and 10)

Next week, on day 9 and 10, you'll see it says splitting up the joy for more joy.

So what you're gonna do is remember this outfit that you wore today. It's day four. And on day 9 and 10, you are gonna take one piece from that outfit, whether that is the top, or the bottom, or the shoes, or maybe it's accessories that you only always wear with this one outfit, and put it into a whole nother outfit you've never worn.

Day 10, you're going to take another piece, one piece on day nine, one piece on day 10, and you are going to put them in brand new outfits.

Why I do this with people is because we get such in the habit of wearing the same outfits over and over and over in the same combinations. But we love these pieces, right? So let's break up our favorite outfit, get out of the habit of wearing it all together, and try to see the possibilities within this outfit.

So you take the shirt, and you see the possibilities within it. You find other bottoms that can go with it, and you create a whole new outfit. Same with another piece, same we're taking the pants or the shoes. We find a whole nother outfit, and then we start to open the possibilities for this one outfit that we had stuck in our head that we only wear it this one way.

So that is how today, day four, outfit joy, is going to be implemented in day 9 and 10 when we split up this joyful outfit to see more possibilities.

Day 5 and 6: “I Can’t” In Your Body

Okay, let's talk about day five and six, which is tomorrow and the next day. It says, Identify, and I can't with your body, and find out the inspiration for that I can't on Pinterest.

That I can't in your body, I am generally talking about when people tell me, Casey, help me dress for my body type. And the general answer out there is that you put your body type in these five select body types, like rectangular, oval, apple, or whatever they are called. And then you look at the advice and you try to follow it.

I am not gonna do that to you, 'cause this actually makes no sense to me. I tried to follow that when I gave style advice, and there is no reason why you should do this because it really gives you limiting ways to dress, and it just, when you read it, it's confusing.

So let's X nay all of that, and I'm gonna give you a new way.

A Gentle Disclaimer About “Problem Areas”

First of all, disclaimer. I don't love the language I'm about to use when I talk about your body's problem areas, because I don't think your body is a problem anywhere. I want us all to embrace and adore where our bodies are at, how they are shaped, and really honor them for them.

However, I also understand, I have to use this language so you know what I'm talking about to get to the results that we are trying to get to. Forgive me of using some of this negative language, and I want you to know we're only using this language to find the answers, so we stop using this language about ourselves, and stop seeing our bodies as problems, and that everyone just has a different body, and let's honor it, and let's just figure out how you want to express your style with your body.

It has nothing to do with make it right or wrong.

With that, I understand that all growing up, we have been taught, we want a hourglass figure, and that is the right way to show up, right? We want our shoulders to be almost the same size as our hips, and then our waste to be skinnier.

And that's just how we've been taught, how we've trained our eyes to see what is right and what is wrong. Unfortunately, that is just how it is. And then the fashion industry hasn't helped, that they have created a standard size clothing type that only fits this type of body style. So it really makes it hard for the rest of us, and it makes it hard to not feel wrong in our bodies.

So let's just address that and understand that.

But as we go on, amazingly enough, there are multiple people out there that have decided to celebrate their bodies and wear clothes in celebration of who they are and what they are. And we are gonna find those people. so that we can be inspired to celebrate our bodies.

Pinterest And The “I Can’t” Search

How we're gonna find them, yes, is gonna be a little bit of negative language.

So what you are going to do is think about the "problems" of your body. And so, if you have big hips, if you have really large breasts, if you have no breasts, if you have a mama pooch, like, these are all things we are very insecure about, right? We shouldn't be, but I understand it.

So, number one, identify where you are having insecurities in your body and how someone might describe them. Correct?

Okay. Number two, you're gonna open up Pinterest, and in the search bar, you are going to put whatever that problem, body area is, and then put outfits or styles.

Say, I have a mama pooch, which I do. And I say, outfits for Mama Pooch. And then you might find different wording of, maybe they don't call it a mama pooch's common. Maybe it called something else, so you can redefine your search, put a different search back in with those new words, and say outfits for, fill in the blank.

Maybe you have wide shoulders. You go, outfits for wide shoulders. Bake hips, outfits for big hips.

You see, the slew of results that come up, and if you have not started, your inspiration board, this is a perfect way to find people that are your body shape, that inspire you. Start to save them to your inspiration board.

Studying Your Inspiration And Breaking Old Rules

Then you are going to start analyzing these pictures, just how I taught you to look at all your inspiration pictures.

You're going to break it down. You're going to look, what are they wearing for a top? What are they wearing for a bottom? What is this outfit combination? They've created. Is it the colors? Is it the fit? Is it the textures?

You're gonna start looking and analyzing why you like these outfits.

You might even find, like, say you have bigger hips, and historically, you have always been told to wear things that reduce the look of your hips. But maybe you're looking at this one picture, and you adore the outfit, and you're like, Wait a minute, she's wearing this skirt that actually makes her hips kind of, like, look bigger and more celebrated, and I kind of like that look. And it's not about reducing that. She's celebrating it, and I want to do that, too.

So you might start getting inspiration for breaking the rules of what you've ever been taught. And seeing people celebrate their bodies in these clothes. And so find that celebration with what you see.

And so on and on, you go. We can collect more pictures. The Pinterest algorithm will start feeding you more pictures along the same lines of what you're looking for. That's kind of the beauty of it. And just start saving, saving, saving, so you have the slew of inspiration to pool from when you're getting stuck in your closet, when you're feeling down about your body, and you'll start seeing celebration all around you.

Implementation For The Next Few Days

So, that is what I am talking about for the implementation for the next few days is finding that I cants in your body.

What is the I can't? When you think of your body, when you are standing in your closet, I can't wear this because of my shoulders. I can't wear this because of my mama pooch. I can't wear this because of my arms.

So then, as we identify these eye cants, when it has to do with body image, we then look to Pinterest to help squash those eye cans and start celebrating our body as they are, and finding clothes that do that.

There you go, my friends. This is day 20 of the 30 day No By Challenge, really kind of breaking down the next few implementations that we have coming up.

I hope this gives you clarity and doesn't confuse you even more. I just get so excited to share all this.

Of course, what I want you to do is don't feel pressured to implement this all at once. It is a lot. So what you're gonna do is remember all of this. John, it down, create a way to remember that you can try these formulas throughout the next year.

Oh, we're talking about the next year. I'm trying to pack this all into 30 days, but we are talking about the next year. And your life. To start implementing these into your life so you can just see the possibilities in your closet.

All right, my friends, remember that link that you can share your outfits with me or ask questions. It is there for you.

I hope you have a wonderful day. I am Casey, your fashion bestie, and I will be back tomorrow.
